LM2 Racing consists of a group of local residents that have dedicated their time and resources to make racing both a business and hobby.
Rick Mrzyglod, one of the "M"'s in LM2 thought the idea of dedicating a bunch of time in stripping a street car (a Ford Tempo, no less) and racing it on a dirt track would be a great way to spend Friday nights. This was in 1999.
Rick slowly started to gain interest from his family and friends, and, in 2000, established his race team: himself, the driver, Kevin Lukasik (the "L") as pit crew and support, and his brother, Mike (the other "M, hence "M2"), as a frequent competitor at the Albany -Saratoga Speedway in Malta, NY.
The Legacy of the "# 51" Cruiser 6-cylinder was born.
2000 was a building year, with many ups and downs for the team. The uphill battle to keep the car on the track and competitive was on. A tragic accident near the end of the season retired the original "51" car to pasture.
2001 was a year of frustration. The original car built for the season made it to Tech Inspection at the track, and , after 3 laps, suffered it's mechanical "stroke" and died gracefully. The remainder of the 2001 season was dedicated to supporting the race community as spectators, and R & D.
2002 brought the year of innovation. T.R Perna joined the pit crew With assistance from our primary sponsors, Lussiers' Auto Body and Kneer's Auto Parts, we were able to build 2 cars. The # 51, back to the original purple/yellow paint scheme, was a brand new build. The # 72 4-cylinder cruiser was Mike Mrzyglod's introduction to racing, another new build. After some top-10 finishes, and being rebuilt from 2 prior crashes, Mike's car met the same fate as the original # 51 car and was retired. Rick continued to learn the track and the car.
Going into 2003 as a single car team, we were able to concentrate on the # 51 car. The 2002 car was cleaned up (new sheet metal, tune-up, tires) with one major change : LM2 Racing decided our paint scheme from this season forward would remember New York's heroes; Firefighters, Police Officers, and everyone who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy, as well as the members of our Armed Forces who fight every day to preserve our freedom. The Stars and Stripes Theme will stay on every car LM2 Racing presents to our fans. Always Remember......Never Forget.
On 7/11/2003, Rick brought LM2 Racing our first feature win. With this, the season also taught us many lessons that so many veterans have learned ofer the years of circle track racing. We used our current experiences with those learned from others to continue our development of our car and team.
Rick finished in the top 3 in points in the Cruiser 6-Cylinder division at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for 2003.
2004 brought LM2 Racing some crew and vehicle changes for the upcoming season. TKC Graphics came on as a sponsor and redesigned the lettering and logos for the car to match a new paint scheme. New sheet metal and safety upgrades prepared the car for the 2004 season.
The pit crew continued to tune their skills as well; Rick was knocked out of a feature event with moderate front end damage; the crew (assisted by Tim Hartman and another driver...thanks again) managed to get Rick back out without missing a lap. Restarting from 21st position with 8 laps to go, Rick was in 2nd place and closing on the leader when the checkered flag flew. Nice job by all.
Consistent top-5 finishes, along with 4 feature wins led to Rick claiming the 6-cylinder Mini-Stock Championship for 2004. Congratulations, Rick !
2005 will bring new challenges as Rick enters the Rentway Limited Division. Crew Chief Kevin Lukasik will take over as the driver of the # 51 6-cylinder Mini Stock, with Mike Mrzyglod taking over as crew chief.
With support from our sponsors and fans, we will make 2005 just as exciting as 2004 !
We look forward to seeing our fans at the track.
-Kevin Lukasik
